The Barguzin district

The district is bordered to the North Severobaikalsk and Kurumkansky districts in the South of Baikal, on the East of Bauntovskiy area. Since 1986, the district operates the TRANS-Baikal state national Park.

Barguzinsky district was formed in 1923, the population of 26.6 thousand. the Main ethnic groups: Buryats, Russians, Evenks. Administrative center – village of Barguzin. Distance from Ulan-Ude 315 km. the population of the village 6 thousand people. the Area is bounded on the North by Studying and Kurumkansky districts in the South of Baikal, on the East of Bauntovskiy area. Barguzin village founded on the site of the Barguzin Ostrog. In 1783 Barguzin became the County town of Nerchinsk region, and in 1790 received its coat of arms in the mid-nineteenth century, became a place of political exile.

Here lived the brothers, the Decemberists, Michael and Benjamin Kuhelbeker, exile the Petrashevsky circle, the people, the uprising on the battleship "Potemkin", cadets, social revolutionaries, Bolsheviks, Mensheviks. The town has kept its historical and memorable places, merchant's house, works as a school Museum, which presents an interesting exhibition of samples of material culture of the XVIII–XIX centuries. In 1990 Barguzin included in the list of historical cities of Russia.

Transfiguration Church dates from 1808-1834. In the first chapel housed the main altar in the name of the Transfiguration, in the southern "warm" in the name of the Annunciation, in the Northern "cold" – in the name of Sainted Nicholas the Wonderworker. The interiors of the temple had murals, the main attraction were the iconostasis. After closure in 1940, the Church was located a cinema, later a repair shop, an Orthodox parish was returned to the temple in 1993, the Church of the Transfiguration as a unique monument of Russian classicism.

The old Barguzinsky cemetery famous grave of Decembrist Mikhail Kuchelbecker of slabs of pink marble with cast iron palm wreath and embossed inscription "the Decembrist Mikhail Karlovich kiichelbecker, 1798-1859". In 1989, during the work of the international expedition to search for burial of the national hero of Hungary, sándor petőfi, the grave of Decembrist Kuchelbecker was found. The Barguzin river is the main river of the region is very promising for water tourism and leisure. In the village is a Directorate of the Zabaikalsky national Park, a unit of the MOE, the house of culture, children's ecologcenter, hospital, post office, bus station, ferry terminal, two gas stations, cafes, canteens and shops, four hotels, guest houses. Valid business information centre "Podlemorye".

The Barguzin Bay is the largest Bay of lake Baikal. Juts out into the inland for 30 km On the Bay is located Ust-Barguzin Bay Barguzin river flows. The width of the Bay between the capes of N. Headboard and Cross 20 km Depth Gulf to lake Baikal up to 1100 m in the mouth of the river Barguzin up to one meter. The shore side of the Peninsula Holy Nose high and steep. The North-Eastern and Eastern shores are low, sandy and sandy-pebbly beaches. The Gulf coast is swampy, with shallow ponds, covered with swamp-meadow vegetation.

Svyatoy nos is the only large mountainous Peninsula on lake Baikal. Its length is 53 km, width – up to 20 km.

The highest point – 1878 M. Buryat name Peninsula Hilmen-Chuluun means "muzzle (nose) of the sturgeon". On the top there is a high plateau, overlooking the picturesque circular panorama of the isthmus of the sacred Nose, Chivyrkuisky and Barguzinsky bays, the Ushkanyi Islands. Chivyrkuisky Bay – the name of a tributary of the river Great Chivyrkuy (Evenk. "chivir" – squirm). Chivyrkuisky Bay – the territory of the Zabaikalsky national Park. Reaches a depth of 600 meters, but most are shallow –10–20 m depth in the bays rarely exceeds 5 m. in the Summer the water in the bays warm up to 20-22 C, and in the shallow southern part even higher, making Chivyrkuy attractive place for summer holidaysha, tourists accept floating hotel "Biolector".

In Chivyrkui Bay of seven Islands: B. balani, B. and M. Kyltygey, White Rock, Saint Helena, Pokoyniki and Gingerbread. The first four monuments of nature and access to them is limited. Chivyrkuy Bay is a Paradise for fishermen, fishermen catch perch, roach, pike, there are instances weighing more than 10 kg.

The Bay is connected with Ust-Barguzin village road which on the isthmus Soft Hag leads to the village Monakhovo and goes on to settlements Katun and Kurbulik.

Ushkanyi Islands are rising above the water the top of the Academic mountain range. The Islands has the status of a monument of nature. The archipelago consists of four Islands: Big, Thin, Round and Long. The island's name came from word "Ushkan", as in Siberia called hares. The name came from the North of Russia, where the Pomors of the White sea hares were called sea lions. Russian natives of the European North, seeing on the Islands of the Baikal freshwater seal – the Nerpa called them Hare, and it was recorded on the map of Remezov in 1701.

Over time, the Hare began to speak in Siberian – Ushkanyi. Islands remain a favorite rookery of seals. The largest rookery is located on the island's Thin, the number here up to 2000 heads. Big ushkanii also known three caves open to them the sites of ancient man.

In the early summer on the steep banks of Islands blooms profusely seaweed, it is called "rabbit". Glamour rocks, completely covered with bright red lichen.

An interesting phenomenon on the Ushkany Islands – the anthills, their number is several hundred, and the height of each almost the height of a man.

On the Big Oskanian a weather station, is a cordon of Zabaikal national Park.

The Barguzin mountain range occupies more than a third of the Eastern coast of lake Baikal, stretching the SAReh it from North to South is about 300 km, the Greatest height of 2841 m (peak Baikal). On the ridge traces of glaciation, moraine deposits, and river valleys with numerous icy waterfalls.

The highest of them – the 300-meter – is located on a tributary of Tompuda – Tikme. In the upper reaches of the ridge are many glacial lakes. Near lakes and Alpine meadows with thickets of Siberian Zharkov and fields of Edelweiss. Here a rich avifauna (400 species of birds). Probable you bear. Barguzin valley

The Barguzin valley, the unique beauty of landscapes, wealth of natural complexes, history, culture, is considered one of the most promising tourist destinations of the Baikal region. It goes through the way from lake Baikal to the Barguzin ridge, springs and resorts of Kurumkansky district. The world Bank named it among the best eco-tourism areas, and the authors of the international Russian-American project "Integrated programme of land-use policies for the Russian territory of the Baikal basin" (the"Project Davis", 1993.) offered to turn the valley into a national Park.

The valley is gradually becoming a relatively independent tourist area, closely adjoining to another tourist area - the Podlemorye. These areas are closely linked to prirodovedecka, economic, and recreational tourism have one common centre - the village of Ust-Barguzin, through which the movement of tourists in different directions. The tourist specialization of the Barguzin valley: active tourism in the Barguzin mountain range (Hiking, skiing, rafting, mountaineering etc.), water in the Barguzin river and its tributaries, health tourism with hot and cold mineral waters, natural, educational and cultural-educational excursions, rural tourism, eco-tourism.

Beautiful nature, mild climate, fertile land have attracted people here. The name of the valley and the name of the Barguzin river derived from the tribal name of barguts, once inhabited the valley - the Northern part of the country of Bargudzhin-Tukum. In the valley of the many religious (sacred) places, belonging to different tribes and peoples.

Chronicle of the Barguzin valley is replete with events. Some of them are described by historians and ethnographers, the other is contained in legends. Here is one of the main shrines of the Northern Buddhist world - mountain, Baraggan. There were built Buddhist datsans and Orthodox churches. Before the October revolution Barguzin was the place where the tsarist Russian government exiled his political opponents, among them were the Decembrists. With the Barguzin valley is linked to the history of gold mining in Transbaikalia. Gold was mined in taiga and sent to the center of Russia and to Israel. Here were found also copper. During the civil war in the valley was created guerrilla groups, which resisted the army of ataman Semenova. Here, according to one version rested the ashes of the great Hungarian revolutionary poet Sandor Petofi.

The valley is located in intermountain basin, through which flows the river Barguzin. Along the river in the direction of lake Baikal sometimes the wind blows Barguzin referred to in the well-known song "Glorious sea - sacred Baikal". In the middle of the mountain taiga is a vast steppe with typical steppe plants. Significant areas occupied by meadows, marshes, there are areas of sand. There are several mineral springs with good curative properties.

Valley of the Barguzin river is framed by two mountain ranges: Barguzin and Ikat. The ridges are densely forested taiga. The adjacent portions of the BarGubinskogo, ikat and ridges of North-bound passes; this creates opportunities for organizations of different complexity of tourist routes.

Barguzin valley is home to several monuments, some of them are monuments of nature. On its territory there are protected areas: the dzherginskiy reserve and Ulanski sanctuary. In the modern administrative structure of the Republic of Buryatia, Barguzin valley is divided into two areas: the Barguzin with its center in the village of Barguzin and kurumkanskogo centre in the village Kurumkan.

The length of the Barguzin valley is 230 km, ending the settlements is the settlement of Ust-Barguzin located 270 km from Ulan-Ude, and local resort umhey, (territory kurumkanskiy district), located 500 km from Ulan-Ude. Road Ulan-Ude-umha (Barguzinsky trakt) has paved and unpaved sections. It passes at the foot of the Barguzinsky mountain range along the right side of the Barguzin river. There is a bus service between the village of Barguzin valley and Ulan-Ude. On the left side of the river is highway, but it has long not been repaired, some of the bridges across the river destroyed. Some sections of this road can be used for movement. From resort umha further North of lake Baikal there is a road but it is passable only to heavy vehicles.

Settlements of Barguzinskaya valley is located mainly along it. In the Barguzin and Ikat ridges flanking the valley settlements there. In the village of Ust-Barguzin operates the business information centre "Podlemorye" administration of the Barguzin district, which has information about hotels, hostels, guest houses and can assist in placement in Ust-Barguzin and in other localities of Podlemorye and the Barguzin valley. The center is developing tourist routes, organizes tourist trips and excursions. The village is a squad of search-and-rescue service of EMERCOM of Russia and the management of the state.public national Park "Zabaykalsky". The village is conveniently located on the shore of the Barguzin Bay, where there is a nice sandy beach, and is a very popular place to visit in the summer.

In the settlements of the valley are functioning libraries, rural houses of culture, clubs, cultural and recreational associations, music schools, schools of arts, people's muzykalnye groups and theatres, museums. Price information and collections have centers of children and youth creativity centers, and Buryat and Evenk culture.

Currently, the development of tourism in the valley is at an early stage. In it there is not yet a developed tourist centres and tourism regions. While there are no comfortable hotels and tourist bases, there are tourist organizations that have a license.
