This is the oldest Buddhist temple in Transbaikalia located near Murochi village on the Bichura-Kyahta highway. In 1741, 12 kilometers from the current temple a large felt tent was erected for worship, where the first Buddhist services in Buryatia began to be held there. 17 years later, the wooden Tsongolskiy datsan was built here. Not far from the main temple complex in the Ranjur area, the Buddha sign appears - the prayer inscription "Om mani padme hum". It was discovered more than 200 years ago, and the place itself became the pilgrimage place of Buddhists from around the world. Now meditations are held daily at the cliff. Datsan is open for visitors. There is something special on the datsan territory: a tower of long and smooth timber and wooden barrel is fixed at the top. Why and for what purposes it is, you will know there. You will also find out why some men take some sand with them.
